4 Reasons Women Can Do Anything They Set Their Minds To!

By just doing YOU, your own way and in your element, you are a force to be reckoned with! There is something unstoppable about…

March is Women’s History Month!

Before I get into it, let me share some about the significance of this month from History.com. It is a dedicated month to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to U.S. history. We often hear about the same few powerhouse women in history, but there are so many other noteworthy women out making waves! You may actually be one of them yourself… we’ll get into that down below!

The actual celebration of Women’s History Month grew out of a weeklong celebration of women’s contributions to culture, history and society organized by the school district of Sonoma, California, in 1978. Presentations were given at dozens of schools, hundreds of students participated in a “Real Woman” essay contest and a parade was held in downtown Santa Rosa.

A few years later, the idea caught on within communities, school districts and organizations across the country. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week. The U.S. Congress followed suit the next year, passing a resolution establishing a national celebration. Six years later, the National Women’s History Project successfully petitioned Congress to expand the event to the entire month of March.

How awesome is that?!!!

Now… on to why women can do anything they set their minds to!

Reason #1 - The stage has been set just for you!

Like we were reminded up above, you are capable, and you matter. Your contributions and accomplishments are important. Historical powerhouses like Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony, Helen Keller, Mother Teresa, and Daisy Bates leave a huge legacy for us to strive for. Are we doing our part? Are we talking risks? Are we stepping out on faith like they did to make a difference in their communities, big and small?

Reason #2 - You have the capability of being just as strong as men!

Now, while I am a personal trainer and have my own opinions about this, I’m not talking about physical strength in this conversation, lol! I’m referring to GRIT, DEDICATION, and COMMITMENT to set goals and achieve them on a personal and/or professional level. In my humble opinion, one of the main differences is simply that women just seem to make things happen, we’re not always looking for acknowledgments or fanfare. We just want to get $#!T done! Why? Because there’s usually quite a bit on our plates and to-lists that keep us from spending too much time chasing accolades, we MUST keep moving on to the NEXT! That is where that strength comes in!

Reason #3 - You deserve it!

You work hard. Whether it’s at home, work, school, or in the community, you work hard and you deserve it. What’s “it”, you might ask. Well, it is whatever your heart may desire. The list of skills we can excel in is infinite…. think about the following:

  • Climbing the corporate ladder

  • Being the best stay at home mom that you can be

  • Finally taking control of your health

  • Picking up a new hobby (painting, roller-skating, blogging, vlogging, journaling, etc.… you get the picture!)

Whatever your pleasure, do YOU and make it happen, for YOU!

Reason #4 - You have so much to offer!

By just doing YOU, your own way and in your element, you are a force to be reckoned with! There is something unstoppable about a woman who knows what she wants and has the confidence to figure out HOW to make it happen! Sure, there’s work to be done on your part, but you already know that nothing worth having will come without some hard work, risk, discomfort, possible rejection, and a little fear. What sets you apart is that, even with all of that, you will choose to pick up and keep going! WOW! You go, girl! Literally, GO! Go and be amazing at whatever you decide to do.

Whichever reason suits you best (or, even if you have another reason), just remember your power to be great and do great!

Oh, and Happy Women’s History Month!

Word of the Year

Any given word may have a complete different meaning and impact from one person to the next, and that is perfectly fine. That’s actually the beauty of it! You, and you alone, are in control of the interpretation and execution, in your own way and in your own time.

Now faith is the substance of things hope for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1 - NKJV

FAITH - This is my Word of the Year!

Have you ever heard of creating a Word of the Year at the beginning of a new year? Have you ever established one for yourself? A Word of the Year is the practice of selecting one particular word that will serve as your motto, guide, or focus for the coming year. People go to great lengths to come up with a word that will truly convey what their intention or goal may be for themselves. Research may be employed to determine the best word, even prayer and meditation are used as guidance in selecting a word. It is different from creating a New Year Resolution, a practice many of us may be more familiar with. Sometimes with resolutions, although we have the best intentions, we can create unrealistic and strict goals for ourselves that do not always foster growth and awareness, but rather give us a task that is to be completed, a box to be checked upon completion. When that task is not achieved, we may feel defeated and give up on that focus altogether. In my opinion, with a Word of the Year, we have more flexibility to establish exactly what that word means for us individually. Any given word may have a complete different meaning and impact from one person to the next, and that is perfectly fine. That’s actually the beauty of it! You, and you alone, are in control of the interpretation and execution, in your own way and in your own time.

FAITH is a must-have for me in 2021. Really, it is a must-have every year, but I’ve got to cling to this word in 2021. Faith is a belief that is not based on proof… We do not know what tomorrow holds for any of us, that is evident in our everyday lives, in terms of health, employment, relationships, finances, even life itself. But, one thing we can know for sure is that God’s got our back. The tough part is trusting and believing in that daily. We cannot do it by ourselves, we have to put our faith to work. And, that’s my goal for 2021!

One thing that I have done differently this year, in regards to my Word of the Year, is to set calendar reminders in my phone for every couple of weeks. This will guarantee that I stay focused and committed, reminding me to take the time to assess my progress and continue to hold myself accountable.

If this sounds like a practice that you would like to establish for yourself, I suggest you take time and truly think of what is important to you and what strides you would like to make in this new year. Finding a word/focus that was right for me took extra time this year, I had to be patient with myself. If we had not learned before 2020, I think last year really taught us to slow down and be patient with ourselves and others. Let’s not forget that as we move forward. Be thankful and be kind!
